Restarting an Access Point (AP) powered over Ethernet (POE)

Restarting an Access Point (AP) powered over Ethernet (POE)

Restarting an Access Point (AP) powered over Ethernet involves a few steps. Follow these instructions:

  1. Identify the Access Point: Locate the specific Access Point that you want to restart. It might be connected to a network switch or a Power over Ethernet (PoE) injector.

  2. Access the Network Equipment: Find the network switch or PoE injector supplying power to the Access Point. It should have an Ethernet cable connected to the Access Point.

  3. Locate the Power Source: Identify the power source connected to the network switch or PoE injector. This might involve finding the power outlet where the switch or injector is connected.

  4. Turn Off Power: Depending on the setup, you can turn off power to the Access Point in a few ways:

    • If using a PoE switch: Locate the switch in the network infrastructure and power it off. This action will cut off power to all devices, including the Access Point.

    • If using a PoE injector: Unplug the power adapter or disconnect the PoE injector from the power source. This will stop providing power to the Access Point.

    • Check the AP to ensure that the power light turns off to confirm that you located the correct cable/switch

  5. Wait for a Few Seconds: Allow a brief pause (around 10-20 seconds) to ensure that the Access Point fully loses power and shuts down.

  6. Turn Power On: Reapply power by either:

    • Powering on the PoE switch.
    • Plugging in the power adapter or reconnecting the PoE injector to the power source.
  7. Observe the Access Point: Give it a few moments to boot up. LEDs or indicators on the Access Point should show activity as it restarts.

  8. Check Connectivity: After the Access Point has restarted, ensure it reconnects to the network and resumes normal operation. You can check this by observing the network status or attempting to connect devices to the Wi-Fi network it provides.

Remember, when restarting network devices, there might be a brief interruption in connectivity for devices connected to that specific Access Point. It's advisable to perform this action during a time when network disruption can be minimized, if possible.

Always refer to the device's user manual or manufacturer's instructions for specific guidance on restarting the Access Point or PoE equipment to ensure safe operation and to avoid any potential damage to the devices or network infrastructure.
