KDS Frozen / Won't Bump

KDS Frozen / Won't Bump

If a KDS is frozen or will not bump, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

1. Close + Re-Open OneView

If you are remoted in, you can select 'show desktop' or hit the windows key to display the taskbar and close out OneView.

If that does not work, plug in a keyboard to the KDS mini-pc if it doesnt already have one, and hit CTRL + ALT + Delete to bring up task manager and end task on oneview.

If that still does not work, hold the power button on the mini PC until it turns off, then turn it back on again. If OneView does not auto-boot upon restart, double click the oneview icon on the desktop to re-open it.

You can also reboot Terminal 1, and it will reboot all KDSs

Then you can re-open it from the desktop icon. Double click it, and give it a second.
Sometimes it will not open on the first double click, and you may have to double click it again.
More often than not, this simple restart will resolve the issue. If not, continue with the following steps.

2. Open Notepad

Open notepad from the windows searchbar or from file exporer C:\Windows\System32\notepad.exe
Once notepad is open, make sure there is a cursor appearing inside it, then begin to test buttons on the bump bar itself.

You can see what buttons are supposed to display what text by going into Manager Console and going to Setup > System Preferences > OneView under the BumpPads tab.

Press each button on the bump bar to ensure it displays what it is supposed to (ex. hit 1 on bump bar, types 1 in notepad)

If you find there are inputs on the bump bar that, when pressed, display no text in the notepad, the bump bar input may be faulty and it might be best to replace the bump bar itself.

3. Check Bumping On Other Screens

If a location has multiple screens, check that the screen that will not bump continues to not do so even after bumping of of all other KDS screens.
Determine if the location usually has to bump from other screens to bump off expo first.
(ex: if an item on the expo KDS is not bumping, check to see if you can bump it off the FRY and / or GRILL expo first)

4. Check OneView Settings in Manager Console

In the Manager Console, log in and navigate to Setup > System Preferences > OneView

From here, there are a few settings you can look into to figure out some reasons why orders may not be bumping.
This will not be an in depth explanation of oneview config (link to that article is included at the bottom of this one), instead we will just look at the most common settings relating to the issue at hand.

In the Display tab, check to see if 2 Digit Numerics is checked. If this is checked, it means that 2 digits need to be entered to bump an item.
(Ex: To Bump Order 02, Press 0 then 2 on the bump bar. If this box was unchecked, you would only have to press 2)

Check to see if any of these boxes within the System tab are checked and test if unchecking them makes any difference
