Epson Receipt Printer Troubleshooting

If a printer is an epson, the troubleshooting process is a bit different in some areas.

  1. Self Test: Hold the feed button (not labled feed, but is the only other button besides power button), turn power off, turn power on while still holding feed

Alert
Be sure to turn the printer off and on again after self test to get it out of self test mode.

  1. Cabling: As with any standard Ethernet cable, make sure it is securely connected and has lights on both ends.

Warning*If the printer is not using an ethernet but instead is connected with a USB , skip to the end of the article

  1. Check Printer IP: To run an IP check on an Epson, make sure the printer is on, then press and hold the small button labled "SW" located near where the ethernet cable is plugged in for about 5 seconds. On some Epsons it wont be labeled "SW" but will still be located in the same area (see pic #2)
    1. You will need a pen or toothpick to press this button.

  1. Reset Printer IP: Turn power switch off, hold reset button down, while still holding reset button, turn power switch back on.
    1. you will now be assigned a new IP address that you can use in the next step

  1. Change Printer IP: Type the IP from the self test into a web browser and use the configuration on the web page it brings you to.
    1. It will ask for a username and password. Both are 'epson'
    2. Once logged in, navigate to the Network Settings or TCP/IP Settings page.
    3. Look for an option related to IP Address or TCP/IP.
    4. Choose to manually configure the IP address.
    5. Enter the new IP address, along with the appropriate subnet mask and gateway, if necessary.
    6. After entering the new IP information, click Apply or Save.
    7. The printer may reboot or momentarily go offline as the changes are applied.

  1. Verify Manager Console Hardware Device Settings: Ensure that if you've assigned a new IP, that it matches the one set for the same printer in Manager Console Hardware Device settings (setup > system preferences > hardware devices)
    1. Make sure the hardware device type is set to Epson Ethernet.

Warning
*If printer is connected via USB , it will have to be assigned a virtual COM port. There is a zip file attached in this article with the program to get this virtual COM assigned.

- Assign the USB serial device to a COM that is not already taken (usually anywhere between 4-7)
- Ensure the USB serial device now shows a port and com number and correct port assigned
- Go back into hardware device settings and ensure printer setup device type is Serial and port is whichever you set virtually.
- Hit OK to save changes in hardware device settings and relaunch the onePOS software on the terminal this printer is attached to , you should then see printer active
